My Transition to 10th Grade
My 9th Grade Self
When I first started the school year I was very lazy and didn’t want to do any work. As the year went on I become more motivated in school and started to work harder and more on assignments. I also wasn’t very persistent when I first started I would give up on stuff very easily. Now I’m very persistent and I keep trying to succeed in whatever I’m doing.
Things I have experience through the year to help me get ready for 10th grade are all the math assignments we did. The math assignments helped me because I don’t understand math very well. As the year went on I became more motivated and persistent and I was able to understand math. One assignment that helped a lot was the checklist for math. It was a very long checklist and I never gave up and I just kept pushing to complete it. Another thing outside of school that has helped me get motivated is soccer and guitar. Guitar is one of those things you have to practice a lot of and be persistent which I think helped me in school as well.
I will be ready for 10th grade because I have grown during my 9th grade year to become persistent and motivated in school.
How I Excelled in 9th Grade
I excelled In Chinese at the beginning of the year. To excel in something means to not have any trouble or little trouble and everything goes smoothly. In the first two quarters of Chinese I excelled in taking tests and quizzes. My first artifact is the Chinese 1 L1 D2 Vocabulary Quiz 2. I chose this artifact because I did very well on it and only missed half a point which proves I excelled. My second artifact is the Chinese 1 L1 D2 Vocabulary Quiz 1. I chose this quiz as well because I did very well on this and only missed 1 point which proves I didn’t have very much struggle with this or the other quiz. The reasons I did so good on these was because I studied a lot and really tried to learn in class. I haven’t always been successful in this class but this year I definitely was. As you can see I clearly excelled through Chinese this year because of how well I did at quizzes.

How I Struggled in 9th Grade
Something I struggled in was taking Cornell notes in language arts. Cornell notes are notes that have to be formatted in a certain way. We had to do a lot of these in Language Arts but whenever I did them I could not find the motivation to do them very well. My first artifact are my chapter 5 Cornell notes. I chose these because most people wrote about a paragraph and I did not right very much obviously showing that I was struggling. My second artifact is my chapter 6 Cornell notes I struggled with these because I was trying to rush through them just to get done with it and not put some detail in them. I mostly wrote one sentence answers which just proves I was not doing well. I think the reason I struggled with these was because when you were formatting them you had to make your own questions about what chapter you read. I think my questions weren’t very good or simple and that’s why I struggled. When we started getting to chapters 7 and up I started getting better at them because we had to take good notes and talk about them in front of the class. I will grow to become better at these simply by trying not to rush through them and trying to think of better more specific questions.

My Greatest Growth in 9th Grade
My greatest growth this year was in language arts. In language arts this year we had to present a lot in class. Presenting in class in front of people really helped me become a better presenter and now when I present I barely get nervous. I grew in presenting and practicing to present for things. My first artifact is my note cards I used during one of my presentations and used to practice at home. These helped me so much during my presentation and practicing I did look at them a little too much while presenting so there is still more room for improvement. I spent so much time on these note cards making them really neat and good to make sure I didn’t fail my presentation. My second artifact is my Socratic Seminar Scoring Guide 2017. This was the scoring guide for our Socratic Seminars during these we had to talk about a topic which would usually be something we read about the night before and we had to have a ten to 15 minute conversation about it in front of the whole class. I chose this because if you look at the 2nd name Ryan it says 20/20 and no one else got a 20/20 so I really thought I had grown in presenting and being able to talk calmly in front of people. This is good because this is a very useful skill to have in the future for college or a job.
