Giant rocks under the earth’s surface that create volcanoes and earthquakes. They are called tectonic plates and they don’t just stay in one place they move and hit into each other causing earthquakes. This year in science class I have grown in my knowledge of plate tectonics.
My first artifact is my final draft of my project. This shows growth because it looks a lot better than our prototype. Are prototype was good for the amount of time we had but the ducktape started to unstick and everything started to look bad our final model looked a lot better and the ducktape stuck the velcro is still on and the plates move perfectly. The point of this project was for us to learn about plate tectonics we learned about diffrent locations and picked one to model. Some content for duck taping i learned was that if you do it in small parts it looks a lot better and you dont have giant peices coming off.
My second artifact is my prototype. This shows growth because on our prototype we got a lot of feedback. We had to change most of our design to make our model work and look good. The critique shows I grew because without it we probably would have gotten a bad grade. The people that critiqued it helped me a lot though because without them I wouldn’t have known that stuff like if they liked the velcro on it or not. Something they taught me was what a transform fault was. A transform fault is when two plates move horizontal next to each other and they can hook on to each other and cause earthquakes which are why there are so many in California which is where the San Andreas Fault is. One more thing I learned from my science teacher Ms. Poppaw was about the Mid Atlantic Ridge. I learned that new rock comes out of there and old rock slides under the earth’s surface and melts and rotates around to come out the Mid Atlantic Ridge again.
So this will help me In the future because if there is an earthquake I will have known why it happened and how it happened. This will also help me in the future is I want a job this is very interesting to me and amazing that this happens and we don’t even see it happening so this could be a very good topic to peruse as a job. Growing in plate tectonics will be very helpful for me If I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up.
