Vocab Test
Language Arts
Third Vocab test
Fifth Vocab test

What have you grown in this year? Having a bigger vocabulary? Studying? I know I have, this year in my Language Arts class at the Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) we have taken weekly vocab tests to help extend our vocabulary. I have done well on almost all of these test, the test I didn’t do well on was the first one but the next test (that I studied for) I almost got a perfect score. This year I think I have grown in getting good grades and studying for my vocab tests in Language Arts.

My first artifact I have to show you is my very first vocab quiz. When I took this I had only studied for 15 minutes before the quiz. When you look at my vocab quiz you can see that I got an okay grade but it wasn’t as best as I could do. My mom always tells me this quote “what you put in is what you get out” I only put in 15 minutes and I got an okay grade but okay isn’t good enough at the DRSS. Now you might be wondering why we take vocab test. We take vocab test because they teach us memory skills and how to memorize things and expand our vocabulary.

My second artifact is the one that actually shows growth. It shows growth because as you can see I got an almost perfect score because I studied. I didn’t just get a good grade because I studied you could say you studied which could mean anything like 5 minutes but I got a good grade because I studied a lot. I studied for about an hour or an hour and a half instead of just 15 minutes. Studying just for 45 more minutes got me 2 points higher and an A instead of a B. when I saw I got a 19/20 I thought about the quote my mom said “what you put in is what you get out. Our vocab quizzes teach us memory skills because when we take these quizzes we don’t have a word bank or anything we just have 10 fill in the blank questions. Something I learned from vocab test is a good way to memorize things instead of studying for 30 minutes the night before the test I studied for 20 minutes every day for a week until the test and I did way better. One other way I studied was having someone else quiz me on the words they would say them out loud and I would tell them the definition.

Now that you have read about both artifacts you can understand the more you study or work on something the better the outcome will be. Next time you’re doing work or studying for a test or quiz I hope you think back to this reflection and remember the quote my mom told me “what you put in is what you get out”. If I hadn’t of put so much studying time into vocab tests I would not be doing very well in Language Art’s but since I sucked it up and studied more I grew in vocab quizzes by getting a better grade.
