10th Entry 2
During my 10th grade year at the Dayton Regional STEM School, I have had many interesting classes. Although they were all interesting, I took a lot of interest in World History. Specifically I took interest in three units, those three units being, Conflict and Genocide, The Red States, and Globalization. I could definitely see myself being a historian, but would not be fully sure if I wanted to do that over something else.
During The Red States unit, we learned a lot, including Communist Russia and Communist China. When we were learning about Communist China, we participated in the Red Book Project. This was a very interesting project to participate in, to start this project off we had to get our very own red book to represent what citizens in Communist China had. Out of the four classes of about 30 students, 16 red guards were chosen which acted as police. Every day we would have to remember Mao Zedong’s bio and quotes that, we wrote down in out book from him. The Red Guard’s purpose was to check if we had the bio and quotes memorized. If we did not have them memorized, we would lose 1 point out of 49 total. This really interested me because people actually did this during the time when Mao ruled over China. I did very well on this project and it helped me with my memorization skills and I enjoyed learning about what happened and when this happened. This is my artifact because I got a very good grade on this project when it was all over.
My artifact proves that I show interest in World History because of the good grade I got on the Red Book project. This could really help me In the future because the project prepared me for memorizing things, and it prepared me to do things I do not want to. My interest in History could also get me a job somewhere if I decided to pursue it more. I am not sure however, and I am still looking into different opportunities.
